Mechanics' Liens for Design Professionals
The CLTA has proposed amendments to SB 424 (Rubio), a bill converting design professionals' liens to mechanics' liens once work commences. The CLTA opposes the bill as introduced. The amendments specifically provide that a converted design professional lien shall be effective as of the date of the recordation of the mechanics' lien and has priority based on existing mechanics' lien law. A second amendment delays the effective date of the law until July 1, 2012 when the wholesale revision of the mechanics' lien law made last year becomes effective.
